'Up in all Weather' - The Story of RAF Docking £7.50 plus postage (or £5.00 on a CD in pdf format)
RAF Docking began life as a decoy site and emergency landing ground for nearby Bircham Newton, but it soon expanded and was used as a base for meteorological reconnaissance, air-sea rescue and offensive operations at night. The history of this forgotten airfield is vividly told by an ex-RAF Squadron Leader who, as a child just after the war, lived in one of the huts on the site. Aspects of wartime Docking are woven into the tale, as are the memories of men and women who served there. This book will appeal equally to aviation enthusiasts and to local readers who remember or are curious about the dark days of World War II.
Please note that the cd contains a revised version of 'Up in all Weather', in pdf format, produced in 2008. This version contains several revisions, new diagrams, many new photographs, and information about wartime evacuees. It will be produced as a new printed book at some time in the future. In the meantime this revised version is provided as an e-book, readable on your personal computer using Adobe Reader.
'Whin Close Warriors' - The Story of Sedgeford Aerodrome £5.00 plus postage (or £4.00 on a CD in pdf format)
Sedgeford aerodrome opened in 1915 as a night or emergency landing ground for the Royal Naval Air Service station at Great Yarmouth. The RNAS station was employed on home defence duties, responsible for intercepting and destroying Zeppelin airships that were bombing east coast targets at that time. From early 1916 until its closure, Sedgeford was also extensively used to train units that were being deployed to the Western Front and other theatres of war. Fledgling squadrons would undergo several months of intensive flying training and gunnery practice at Sedgeford to prepare them for combat. Aspects of the home defence against Zeppelin airships and the training of young airmen are woven into the story, as are the wartime exploits of the Sedgeford-trained units deployed overseas. This book will appeal to aviation enthusiasts and to local readers who are interested in their heritage or in the history of the Great War.
'The Super Handley' - The Story of Britain's First V-Bomber £5.00 plus postage (or £4.00 on a CD in pdf format)
The Handley Page V/1500 was the largest British plane of the First World War and arguably the first real strategic bomber, being specifically designed to attack Berlin from bases in eastern England. Although the Armistice was signed before the V/1500 was used in anger, and it saw only limited post-war service with the Royal Air Force at Bircham Newton, it was to be involved in some notable overseas adventures. These included a through flight from England to India, a successful bombing mission over Kabul and an unfortunate odyssey in North America. This account will appeal to those who are interested in the Great War or the history of aviation.
